The Friends won a grant for this project from the People’s Postcode Lottery. The idea was to increase the use of the site by schools and the local community by building a range of wooden play features that reflect the wildlife & heritage of the site. The project incorporates a linear play trail linking two small woodland activity areas.
The play features have been built as far as possible with timber harvested from site. A storytelling area with den building caters for groups on field study visits and enables focused and safe bushcraft sessions to be delivered. Members of the public, local visiting schools & groups and local forest school leaders have all confirmed that a high quality, woodland destination brings huge added benefit to outdoor education & play at Ham Hill.
